The past two weeks, students have been furiously working on some ball-point pen drawings on 9x12" paper. These drawings were in response to a big discussion about limitations in art making. We talked about the different limits throughout the year that students had in their project assignments, as well as limitations that artists have given themselves in art history as well as contemporary art. We looked at several artists, examined their work, and then students responded with the task of creating a full value shaded ball-point pen drawing that showed unity, texture, and followed the art rules. Here are the results!
Students this past week have been working off the idea of limitations in art making. We talked about limits artists might place on themselves in order to push the boundaries and push their creativity.
Specifically for this project we looked at artists who limited themselves to basic ballpoint pen in order to create art. Artists mentioned were Il Lee and Lennie Mace. We talked about the differences in their styles but still accomplishing successful pieces with the material limitations. Then... we started. Students researched and dug through their photos on their devices to find a photo to recreate in ballpoint pen. They were given two weeks to complete it and so far, I think so good! Stay tuned for some pictures of their work. |
